NodeSource Weekly — Oct 13, 2026: Node.js 26.11, N|Solid + OpenVEX & AI Agents

👋 Welcome to This Week’s Edition!

Node.js diagnostics are getting better, security tooling is adding more context, and AI agents continue to reshape how developers work.

This week:

  • 🟢 Node.js 26.11.0 and 26.11.1 bring new runtime diagnostics, performance APIs, HTTP improvements, and more.
  • 🔐 N|Solid + OpenVEX adds context around known vulnerabilities, helping teams understand which CVEs actually require attention.
  • 🔄 Node.js is preparing for a new release model, changing how major releases move toward LTS.
  • 🤖 AI agents keep evolving, with new capabilities around sandboxing, local models, and developer workflows.
  • 🌎 Plus, updates from the Node.js community and what’s coming next.

From deeper runtime visibility to smarter AI-assisted development, here’s what Node.js teams should have on their radar this week.

Let’s dive in. 🚀

🟢 Last Week in Node.js

Node.js 26.11.0

This release adds several useful runtime improvements, including the new --process-timeout flag for diagnosing stuck processes, better perf_hooks histogram snapshots and diffs, new HTTP header validation helpers, configurable HTTP/2 connection window sizes, and updates to the built-in SQLite API naming. It also includes dependency updates for npm, Undici, OpenSSL, root certificates, and timezone data.

Node.js 26.11.1

Released shortly after 26.11.0, this patch reverts a few documentation and build-related changes. No major runtime features were removed, so the improvements introduced in 26.11.0 remain available.

N|Solid Runtime: More Context for Node.js Security

N|Solid Runtime is a drop-in replacement for the Node.js runtime designed for production environments, adding deeper visibility into CPU, memory, event loop activity, diagnostics, and security without requiring changes to your application code.

Starting with N|Solid 6.3.7, the runtime also includes OpenVEX support, adding exploitability context to known vulnerabilities. Instead of stopping at “this dependency has a CVE,” VEX can communicate whether that vulnerability actually affects N|Solid, along with its status and technical justification.

The latest N|Solid 6.3.8 continues this support while running on Node.js 22.23.3 (Jod) and 24.21.0 (Krypton).

Node.js Community: Preparing for the New Release Model

The Node.js project continues preparing for its new release model. Last week, new documentation for the updated release schedule landed in the Node.js repository. Starting with Node.js 27, the project is moving away from the traditional odd/even release model toward one major release per year, with every major eventually becoming LTS.

The change is designed to make maintaining and securing Node.js more sustainable for its contributor community, while giving users a simpler and more predictable upgrade path.
