NodeSource Announces $17.5M Series B Funding, Empowering Further Enterprise Adoption of Node.js

Today, I'm excited to announce that NodeSource has raised a $17.5 million Series B funding round from Crosslink Capital, Industry Ventures, RRE and Silicon Valley Bank Capital. The additional financing will allow us at NodeSource to increase adoption of our products and services by even more Fortune 500 companies and other leading global corporations who are rapidly adopting Node.js.

Growth and Innovation at NodeSource

We've had a busy year and a half since we raised our Series A in early 2016. During that time, we've continued to make improvements to our flagship product N|Solid, adding a variety of new metrics as well as new ways to explore and use Node.js application data. The addition of StatsD integration this past June makes it easy for customers to integrate with existing APM or dashboarding tools, providing more flexible access to N|Solid's unique Node.js-specific metrics. In August we added behavioral metrics for the Node.js event loop, becoming the only commercial vendor to offer event loop delay notifications. Most recently, support for Node.js 8 LTS “Carbon” and user interface enhancements in the N|Solid console were added, delivering a better experience for customers with large, internet-scale applications.

In addition to continued improvements to N|Solid, in early 2017 we released a brand new product: NodeSource Certified Modules (NCM). NCM evaluates public Node.js modules against a variety of security, stability, and reliability criteria, calculating a numerical score for each module. By providing a quantitative “trust score” for third-party public modules, NCM empowers organizations to take advantage of the rich ecosystem of Node.js packages with a clear understanding of associated risk.

With all these new additions, as well as continued widespread adoption of Node.js, it's no surprise that NodeSource has added dozens of new customers in the past eighteen months, including PayPal, Delta Airlines, GoPro, and Goldman Sachs—just to name a few.

The Node.js project has seen record-breaking growth in the past year, with an average of more than 700,000 downloads per day as well as more than 50% growth in the number of contributors to the open source project. Among the contributors to the open source project are several high-profile NodeSource team members:

  • Trevor Norris concluded several years of research by committing async_hooks, which was released as part of Node.js 8
  • Rod Vagg and Jeremiah Senkpiel, together with Trevor, take part in governance of the Node.js project as members of the Technical Steering Committee (TSC)
  • Tierney Cyren helps to lead community-facing initiatives as a member of the Node.js Foundation Community Committee

NodeSource remains dedicated to delivering enterprise-grade solutions in support of a sustainable ecosystem for the open source Node.js project; and will continue to focus on enabling adoption of Node.js at scale through best-in-class solutions. I look forward to the growth and innovation this Series B funding will make possible in the coming years.

The NodeSource platform offers a high-definition view of the performance, security and behavior of Node.js applications and functions.
