Need to Node – Volume 18
Last week was Node Summit in San Francisco, meaning that quite a few of the major users of Node.js centralized in a single location for a few days. It was an interesting week, and as such things seemingly slowed down a bit. As always, though, there were a few interesting things that happened in the project!
Here’s a quick recap of updates in the various Node.js Working Groups, Teams, and Strategic Initiatives from the past week:
What’s New in the Node.js Project
-
The i18n Initiative is currently working on building out a module that enables importing of translations, one of the key pieces of infrastructure for the project.
-
Planning has already begun for the Node.js Collaborator’s Summit following JS Interactive in Vancouver, with this year’s Summit being open to community members who are interested in participating in the project at a deeper level.
-
The node-chakracore team has released node-chakracore v10.6.0 – always exciting to see new releases of the project!
-
The Release WG is actively discussing the possibility of shipping an npm-less version of Node.js, most recently prompted by efforts from the Docker WG to actually ship a docker image that doesn’t have npm.
