We’re Moving! NodeSource Distributions Now Have a New Home - With Extended Support
At NodeSource, we’ve always been committed to making the Node.js experience secure, stable, and production-ready for teams around the world. Today, we're announcing a key change to how we serve and support our Node.js binary distributions, and it comes with something new: Extended Support.
What’s Changing?
Our long-standing Node.js binary distributions GitHub repository has been widely used by the community for installing and managing Node.js versions on Linux systems, with over 80 million downloads over the last year alone. If you’ve ever used curl -fsSL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_20.x | sudo -E bash -
, you’ve interacted with this repo.
Going forward, we’re removing the legacy documentation from that repository and replacing it with a direct link to a brand new Distributions site hosted on the NodeSource website here.
This change allows us to:
- Provide a more intuitive and modern experience for developers
- Centralize updates, documentation, and support. Keeping Node.js support on Github
- Offer new features like Extended Support for legacy Linux distributions
Meet the New NodeSource Distributions Hub
The new site offers the same setup instructions you’re familiar with, but wrapped in a more guided experience. Just choose your operating system, select your Node.js version, and instantly get the right install command.
Even better, this new interface will let users know if they’re selecting a version that is end-of-life or no longer supported by the Node.js project, and gives them a direct path to request help.
Introducing NodeSource Extended Support
One of the biggest reasons behind this shift is to introduce NodeSource Extended Support, a new service designed for teams that can’t upgrade Node.js versions quickly due to compliance, infrastructure, or production constraints.
With Extended Support, we provide:
- Ongoing maintenance builds
- Installation scripts tailored to your environment
- Optional support tiers for mission-critical production needs
We built this with enterprise users, governments, and industries like healthcare and finance in mind, where stability matters just as much as security.
What Do You Need to Do?
Nothing will break, if you're using our install scripts or binaries, everything will continue to work exactly the same. But if you’re managing infrastructure or working with legacy systems, now is a great time to:
- ✅ Visit the new Distributions site
- ✅ See if your Node.js version is supported
- ✅ Reach out to us to learn more about Extended Support
We’re excited about this next step, not only for what it means for the Node.js ecosystem but for how it helps our users stay secure and productive for the long haul.
Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, thank you for trusting NodeSource.
