🟢 Last Week in Node.js
🚀 Node.js 26.7.0 released
The Node.js Project released Node.js 26.7.0, the latest Current release, with improvements across cryptography, diagnostics, module hooks, testing, and developer tooling.
Node.js 26.7.0 introduces:
- Support for loading private keys through OpenSSL STORE loaders
- Updated root certificates to NSS 3.125
- Perfetto support for improved performance tracing and diagnostics
Symbol.disposesupport inModuleHooksfor explicit resource management- A new
--test-coverage-include-alloption for more comprehensive test coverage reporting - npm 11.19.0
The release also includes fixes and improvements across FFI, HTTP/2, QUIC, networking, the Permission Model, crypto, and dependencies.

🧩 Bring production Node.js diagnostics into your editor
The N|Solid Extension brings real runtime intelligence directly into the tools developers already use, helping teams investigate production issues without constantly switching context.

With the extension, developers can access:
- Live runtime telemetry
- Heap snapshots
- CPU profiles
- Event loop and performance insights
- Package security information
- AI-assisted diagnostics
It works with VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Antigravity, and other compatible editors.

🤖 Give your AI coding agent real production context
The N|Solid Plugin extends that same runtime intelligence to AI coding agents, allowing them to investigate applications using real production evidence instead of relying only on source code.
AI agents can work with:
- Heap snapshots
- CPU profiles
- Runtime telemetry
- Package security insights
- Application benchmarks
It works with Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode, Antigravity CLI, Pi Agent, and other supported AI coding tools.

🌎 Community & Events
🎤 Rafael Gonzaga from NodeSource joins the Node.js platform track at NodeConf EU 2026
The Node.js platform track at NodeConf EU is packed with sessions exploring the future of the runtime, interoperability, native integrations, and the evolution of the ecosystem.

The lineup includes:
- Rafael Gonzaga from NodeSource on why Node.js 27 changes the release model
- James Snell on defining a common minimum Node.js subset across JavaScript runtimes
- A session on FFI and crossing the boundary between JavaScript and native code
- David Clements exploring the question: what if everything was JavaScript?
NodeConf EU 2026 will take place in Bologna, Italy, on September 29–30.

🤖 AI Corner
📚 Recommended reads: building better AI coding agents
This week, we’re highlighting two reads that explore how AI agent systems are evolving beyond simply choosing a powerful model.
Intelligent model routing for coding agents
Not Diamond explores how coding agents can dynamically select different AI models throughout a session based on task complexity, cost, reasoning requirements, and context. Their approach shows how multi-model routing can reduce inference costs while maintaining frontier-level coding performance.

Harness vs. Loop vs. Graph Engineering
Lunar Researcher breaks down three increasingly important layers of AI agent architecture: the harness that gives agents tools and context, the loops that make their work iterative and verifiable, and the graphs that control complex workflows and execution paths.
